War Horse: The Real Story

Here’s an interesting short documentary about British Cavalry Horses in World War One I found on YouTube.

“For centuries, Britain’s cavalry had been one of the staples of its military force. But with the dawn of World War I, a bloody end was beginning for the war horse. Go inside the real history of the WWI British Cavalry’s heroic last charge.”

Very much worth watching.

Polish Lance Drill

Here’s an interesting video demonstrating a Polish Cavalry Lance Drill (Lt. Robert Woronowicz. Krakus’ uniform)  that was posted our International Cavalry Association FaceBook page.

Teaching a horse to tolerate firearms, sabres and tent pegging lances can be a fairly interesting task. Teaching a horse to quietly tolerate lance drills like this can be even more interesting (and usually is). If properly done, the result is a horse that will tolerate pretty much anything. It will also teach the rider better balance and confidence in the saddle.

Keep an eye on my blog – I am starting work on a video demonstrating how to teach a horse to tolerate lance work.

War Horses – WWI, British Field Artillery, 1918

I found this photograph of some British Field Artillery from WWI (Source: New York Times Midweek Pictorial, circa 1919). We are fast approaching the 100th anniversary of the beginning of The First World War, so, I thought I would start posting historic photographs to commemorate the sacrifice made by man and horse in that war.

America’s Mustangs – A Vanishing Symbol of America

Don’t sit back and do nothing as the US Government and the BLM (Bureau of Land Mis-Management) wipe out this part of our world.

“Look back at our struggle for freedom,
Trace our present day’s strength to it’s source;
And you’ll find that man’s pathway to glory
Is strewn with the bones of the horse.”
