Real Cross Country Riding – Cavalry Horseback Riding Training: “Modern Centaurs” circa 1920 (Educational Films Corporation)

Here’s some good footage of Italian Cavalrymen from the 1920’s using Caprilli’s “Natural System” of forward riding in the military context. Now, this is some serious cross country riding.

The really intimidating obstacle is the “Ditch and Bank” jump at about 6:11 in the video. This is seriously cool footage!

This footage came from a YouTube posting by some kind of educational film company. The US Library of Congress has a lot of interesting footage that can be downloaded under public domain licensing for free, or you can get them to digitally transfer material for a nominal fee if it is not available. British Pathé has some really good stuff free for the viewing on their archival website.
